A Long Holiday Weekend

I am having an extra long holiday weekend.  It started when I took a half-day for Canada Day and we have Monday off for the Fourth of July.  That makes for 4.5 days of freedom and I say let freedom ring!

I also have a very good friend visiting – is there anything better?  Here are a few of the things keeping us occupied while he is here.

We went to what I think is possibly the best spa – Burke Williams where I had the most divine facial.  Basically, once I am inside this place I want to move in.

I started to read Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin – so good.  It will make you want to move to San Francisco.

Listening to Glee in the car – yet another guilty pleasure!  I just bought Volume 3.

We went to the opera – the original musical theatre – and I loved it.  Perhaps because I identify with the devil in the story of Faust?

And of course what would a friend’s visit be without sharing some yummy grub

Have a great week possums!

Happy Canada Day!

Oh Canada, you are delicious and I do miss you.  Happy Canada Day to you all!  I hope you are all celebrating joyously and having fun.  In honor of my homeland I am taking a half day off work.

Cheers!

Happy Easter!

Now, these are some ears I want to nibble on.  Seriously, I bought these ears - just the ears - at the grocery store for $1.35.  I couldn't resist getting myself a little Easter sweetness.

And check out these absolutely gorgeous flowers!  These are sitting in the back of my car waiting to be the hostess gifts for a party I am attending tomorrow.   I can't get over what a great job the iPhone does with snapshots.  Please, try to ignore my messy car.

My friend B invited me to celebrate with his family and I was honored to accept.  I hope they like these flowers as much as I do - these are some bodacious blooms!  The blue hydrangeas are for the host and the yellow calla lillies are for B's grandma.

I hope you all have a wonderful, happy Easter!

It's Easy to be Green

I honestly don’t remember a time when I was not in love with the color green. It has always been my favorite colour.   It always seems fresh - like this stuff:
Cool green Keds.

An Hermes scarf que j’adore!

Green pencils that make me want to draw.

This cool Kate Spade cosmetics case.

This green elephant dishtowel from PataPri on Etsy.com.

Finally, the coolest frog ever!

Lucky in Life

It’s Saint Patrick’s day! A fun day to be sure because you get to wear my favorite color, drink green beer and act the silly way people act after drinking several green beers. While I was racking my brain and my closet for something green to wear I started to think about luck. After all, besides colored beer, we do associate the wearing of the green with leprechauns, pots of gold and luck.

I know I have been lucky. Even by my own demanding standards I have a fantastic life, great friends and a wonderful family. But it all took a lot of work and sacrifice. Lucky for me my work and sacrifice were not in vain – they paid off again and again. But is that luck or calculated risk taking?

There have been instances where I have considered myself unlucky and when that happens I try to “remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.” That was the Dalai Lama who said that.

I mostly believe that I make my own luck. Everytime I stick a dollar in a disaster relief fund or do a small thoughtful act to help another person out I like to think I am making a deposit in my cosmic bank. I hope there’s lot of cushion in my account when I need to make a withdrawal!

In any case - dear possums - I hope you all have a lifetime of luck and a happy Saint Patrick's day!

The Christmas Goose and More

My dearios, can you believe in five days it will be Christmas?  Since I am practicing to be a magazine writer, I thought I would try my hand at creating a gift guide to provide a little inspiration for those last minute prezzies for some of the fabulous gals in your life.

This duck is supercute for your new niece plus he is organic so he must be good for you. Heck, any new baby and baby momma would adore this.

Nothing is better than Tiffany! This double sided charm is perfect for that great friend who has a naughty twinkle in her eye.

For your geek girlfriend – the one who catalogues all her tunes and can’t miss an episode of Project Runway - the Apple TV is perfect.

Do you know me? I think you do – and you know I love all things Bobbi Brown. This tiny goldstone eye palette is the perfect makeup refresher to tuck into your New Year’s Eve clutch.

Feeling nostalgic for your college roommate? Recapture your youth and hers with a Muppet lunchbox!

The sanitizing stocking stuffer for your favourite sister who is a germphobe.

Cashmere in a pretty jewel tone – only $59 at Macy’s. I got this for myself with the gift card my boss gave me. It’s perfect for any gal who needs to stay warm and stylish.  I'm practicing this pose for next year's holiday card!
