Word Art

If I was a 15 year old girl I would probably have a wardrobe full of message tees – you know the kind that gets thrown away in the first five seconds of  What Not to Wear.  Since it’s not appropriate for a forty year old woman to send any  message from the breastal area I am going to indulge myself in the idea that I can plaster my home office with word art – like these beauties from Etsy.

It's a Damn Big Drop of Oil

Any of my friends will tell you that I have a phobia about putting things on my walls.  It takes me forever to decide what should be installed.  In fact, let’s be honest, I have lived in some apartments and moved out without ever putting anything on the walls.  I wish I was more courageous with decorating my walls – but that is why I have my friend W!  He takes care of guiding my decorating whims.

I do love poster art though.  It’s funny that I have no issue plastering my cube at work with posters.  In particular I like – and am kind of terrified by – the simple but evocative message of this poster regarding the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  It’s especially poignant how small the US looks here.  For each poster that headofstate.com sells they will donate $20 to Oceana, an organization focused solely on protecting the world’s oceans.

Flap on Creatively!

I live in suburbia and everything outdoors seems manicured within an inch of its life. Seriously – when people pay more in “home owners’ associations” fees than I paid in rent for my first apartment you know that there is some serious gardening maintenance going on.

The orderliness of suburbia has its perks for sure, but, in general we don’t go outside the box and we certainly don’t funk it up with some wild and crazy color scheme. Thus, there are certain types of creativity we miss out on. Like one of my favorites - street art. I felt like every time I turned a corner in Montreal I would see some kind of creative image or mural. And I love the ones I found on Unurth! Take a look for yourself!

The image above reminded me of my sister – I think she might be the only person I know who hangs her laundry outside. Surely the home owners associations of suburban California would not be thrilled to see anyone's unmentionables flapping in the breeze but I say flap on!

It Talks to Me

Gadzooks! I may have found word art nirvana!  You see I like clear direct messages.  And I also feel art should say something to you.  Clear, direct and definitely artful - Coulson Macleod might just be perfect for me.

I love the Love Collection:

Word Art

Often I like artwork that incorporates words.  In fact two of my favourite framed items are photographs my friend G took of words.  One is an image of the word trust inlaid in marble from some bank building signage and the other is the word speak - isolated from a neon speakeasy sign in New York.  I guess I like a clear, direct message.  I keep trust in my cube at work and speak in my home office.

Today, these two images caught my eye:

Imagination is more important that knowledge - courtesy of Albert Einstein and Postal Press.

And this profound image that I saw on Wordsunltd. Such a simple message, but it bears saying - over and over again.
