Busy So Busy

Guys, I have been so busy this week and last.  Sorry for the very sporadic updates.   Tonight I go to a concert at a winery and tomorrow a baseball game.

Treats to Make Sweets

I have an affinity for things formed out of metal. I have this copper star my dad made for his mother when he was a student. It was his Christmas gift to her – I think he was 19 or 20. I can’t imagine how much patience and work it took to bend the metal to make such a pretty star but my dad did it. Since my mom gave it to me that star has always been on display in my home. He made some other sweet things including a copper box that my nephew uses to store special treasures.

I guess it’s sentiment that makes me take a second look when I see something shaped out of bent metal. And lately, since I am taking such an interest in baking these sweet little cookie cutters from Etsy made me smile.   The flag would have been perfect for a holiday like July 4th or Canada Day.

All Dressed Up

For those of you who saw my apartment after W redecorated you may have seen my wrought iron dress form. Anyway, I was leaving the Milk Pail, juggling produce and bread – but no milk – and I saw these cute little dress forms through the window of Ross – a chain of discount stores I don’t normally frequent. I went in and for $7.99 a piece, I decided that these little guys would bring a little of the theme from my living room into my bedroom. These beauties are about two feet high and are sitting on top of my armoire. Of course it's an iPhone photo.

Building For Fun

Okay, there are a few benefits to work travel. Occasionally you get to make a side trip somewhere cool. In my case, on Friday we had an hour and a half to kill before our meeting so I asked my good friend/colleague A if he would mind if we stopped at the gift shop in Lego Land – which was right next door to the hotel where we were having the meeting. That is A running away from me in the picture above – he didn’t want his kids to find out we stopped at Lego Land. He claimed that if they knew he would be in big trouble.

I did buy my nephews some t-shirts and pirate chest coin bank kits. But, I have to admit I got something for myself. I had seen a Lego model of the Getty museum in LA that I wanted to buy. Sadly, it was not available. Lego has an architecture series which is very cool. It allows adults like myself to engage in the fun of Lego without the embarrassment of admitting we are playing with plastic blocks that come in prime colors. I contented myself with this little model of the Empire State Building.

I can’t find the Getty set anywhere online… boo! I might have to entertain myself with the Guggenheim instead. You can learn more about the Lego Architecture Series here.
