How To Do The Messy Pony

When your hair is as long as mine I am always looking for new ways to jazz up the plain jane ponytail.  Remember the topsy tail?   Who would have thought that plastic loop would turn into a $100 million dollar business.  While I did not buy into the topsy tail - I was able to manage the same look with my god given fingers, I do appreciate this primer on how to do the messy ponytail from bellasugar.

Pedicure Day!

Today was pedicure day.  I have been working 10 to 12 hour days lately and I decided that I needed to at least have good looking toes.  The sun has been out so sandal season is just about upon us and my toes were looking chipped and somewhat yucky.  The pink in this picture is cute but I am more of a fire engine red gal - for my toes anyway.  On my fingers I always go with pale pink but toes call for something more exotic.

Cheers my dears!

Snippets of my Weekend.

I had a bizzy weekend and today, Monday, should be exciting too.  This morning I am going to a talk at Google about health services being offered through cloud computing.  I know sounds geeky, but what can I say - I am a geek.

I already told you about the events of Friday night.  Here are a few snippets from the rest of my weekend.

I indulged in Pinkberry frozen yogurt - coconut and pomengranate flavors.

Here you can see my adult side - getting my antioxidants from strawberries.

Here my child like side - that is Captain Crunch!

I heard "Take On Me" in the car and was transported back to high school - briefly.  Remember those Norwegian hotties?  They are still making music!

I took note of a trend - Eyebrow Bars - these are popping up everywhere!  Eyebrow shaping has been around forever - but now it seems to be going commercial.  I saw this one at the mall.  Believe it or not, I have been having my brows groomed since I was 17.  Guess I was ahead of the trend.

Road Test - Bumble and Bumble Hair Powder

I have been using Bumble and Bumble products for several years and I have enjoyed them all.   My hair is very fine and soft but I have lots of it and it is quite long. It also gets greasy quickly and did I mention that I hate blow-drying? I also have some grey hair coming in at the temples. So, I usually end up washing it every day, and sticking it up in a messy bun so that I don’t have to deal with blow-drying.   I know - it doesn't sound very appealing.

Enter this time saver product – Bumble and Bumble Hair Powder. I have tried some other dry shampoo products in the past but they all had a ghastly odor. The B&B product was completely odorless. It also soaked up the oil better than anything else I have ever used. At the end of the day my hair still looked completely oil free.  This product also had the advantage of covering up my grey!

Downside – it will stain your fingers while it is wet. So be careful in your application and when you wash it out you may have to scrub a little more rigorously than usual.   I did buy the small 1oz. size as a trial. It was $19.00 but, it saved me something which I place high value on – time!

There is a version for black, white, red and blondish colors as well as the brown - which is supposed to be for chocolate, mahogany and chestnut shades.  In general, I have not found  many beauty products that save time but this one actually did.

The Classics!

We each have "classics" we hang on to – even if some of them are just memories. My classics include: MAC lipstick in Twig, cashmere cardigans, dark wash jeans, hoop earrings and drinking lots of water – thanks Mom! None of these have ever steered wrong. I don’t actually buy the Twig anymore but it was my first serious foray into the world of lipstick and I wore that for about three years. I always check it out longingly when I go to the MAC counter. It remains a great color to this day!

Falsies for the Faint of Heart

I have wanted to try false eyelashes for years. Other people aspire to write great novels, go to the Olympics, or basically do things which make a difference in the world – I want to adorn my eyes with someone else’s hair. FYI – should I become posthumously famous I want to make sure my shallowness is well documented!

In any case, I decided that if I didn’t get around to it soon I would be trying to glue those suckers on with a shaky hand in a nursing home. Not a pretty vision, so off to the MAC counter I went for a lesson in eyelash application.

As you can see there were lots of types to choose from and frankly, some were quite daunting. Think drag queen style makeup. But lovely Lisa, my makeup artist, selected a very natural looking pair for me and showed me how to apply them. She did one eye and I did the other. (I wish I had taken before and after photos – when I put them on again I promise to do so.) I was kind of surprised that it was not as difficult as I thought it would be.

Here is the pair I ended up buying – again, sorry for the lack of photo. They did look very natural and complemented my eyes nicely. After about five minutes I forgot I had them on and I think I preferred them to heavy mascara application. So, if you too are interested in trying false lashes I say go for it!
